SPX Flow has announced the magnetic mixer series, MagMixer MBE, from its Lightnin brand. The unit has no shaft penetrating the tank and so requires no mechanical seals and is said to significantly reduce the risk of leakage or microbial contamination.
It provides bottom-mounted magnetic agitators suitable for low-viscosity blending, dissolving solids and solid suspension in sterile applications, the company says.
The mixer utilizes Lightnin A281 3-blade hybrid axial/radial impellers in an open construction designed to maximize flow while facilitating easy cleaning and sterilization (CIP and SIP).
The units are controlled by a variable frequency drive (VFD) and provide a power range from 0.09 to 7.5 kW with operating speeds of between 200 and 1000 rpm.
A range of options across the range include:
- different bearings, O-rings, drive and body materials;
- protection classes (up to IP67); and,
- hazardous area operation (ATEX Category 2) for fluid viscosities up to 500 cP.
The mixer is suitable for pharmaceutical and biotechnology as well as fine chemicals, food and beverage and personal care applications.
